Burnt Wooden Beams from the Destruction of Jerusalem during the First Temple Period Discovered in the City of David
The charred beams were uncovered during excavations by the Israel Antiquities Authority and Tel Aviv University in Jerusalem within a building that collapsed by the intense fire at the time of the First Temple's destruction. What likely preserved the beams for approximately 2,600 years was plaster that melted from the building's walls, sealing the burnt wood beneath it.

The City of David Research Conference is Israel’s largest archaeological conference, providing a platform for presenting the latest archaeological discoveries from the City of David to the general public.
The Institute offers unique courses and tours that give participants the opportunity to meet leading lecturers and researchers and see the latest archaeological discoveries firsthand at excavation sites, together with the archaeologists who uncovered them.
The Megalim Institute collaborates with universities and academic institutions in Israel and worldwide to promote and advance research and knowledge of ancient Jerusalem. Together with universities in Israel, the Institute offers courses that combine the latest research with field visits and opportunities to meet the archaeologists working at the excavation sites. The Institute also offers online courses featuring interviews with archaeologists and virtual visits to excavation sites.
