Rare Coin from the Bar-Kochba Revolt Discovered

The coin, discovered in the course of archaeological excavations carried out by the Israel Antiquities Authority in the William Davidson Archaeological Park and funded by the Ir David Foundation bears the inscription “Year Two of the Freedom of Israel,” with the reverse side featuring a palm tree and the word “Jerusalem.” It is the only coin from the period of the Bar Kokhba revolt bearing the name “Jerusalem” ever discovered within Ancient Jerusalem. Archaeologists from the Israel Antiquities Authority: It is possible that a Roman soldier from the Tenth Legion found the coin during one of the battles across the country and brought it to their camp in Jerusalem as a souvenir.
