The lecture unfolds over three periods:
Background to the Revolt – From the conquests of Alexander the Great to the rule of Antiochus IV. In this part, we’ll learn about the influence of Greek culture in the Land of Israel and its impact on Jewish society in Jerusalem during the Second Temple period.
Days of the Revolt – We will analyze the factors that led to the uprising and follow the Maccabees to the battle sites around and inside Jerusalem.
Building Jerusalem – We will discover the achievements of the Maccabees in Jerusalem and explore how and why Jerusalem transformed from a religious city to a cultural, spiritual, and national center.
