Tour plan:

The City of David National Park is one of the most excavated sites in the world and continues being excavated non stop, finding more and more finds regularly.  Sometimes these finds bring new approaches and understandings to the history of the coty, sometimes the finds add small pieces of information to what was already known before.

This tour will visit several current active excavations that are not open to the public to allow tour guides to see and be uptaded in the latest finds.

The sites visited:

  • The Givati Parking Lot excavations
  • The South-western corner of the Temple Mount excavations
  • The eastern slope of the City of David excavations (above the Warren’s Shaft system and nearby the fortified corridor)
  • The Stepped Street- Pilgrimage Road excavations

Essential Information

  • 8:30  –  gathering at the entrance to the City of David
  • 8:40 –  Givati Parking Lot
  • 10:00 – Shalem House excavations,  the eastern slope and the fortified corridor
  • 12:00- Lunch break
  • 12:30- The Shiloach Pool and the Pilgrimage Road
  • 13:30- the south – western corner of the Temple Mount
  • 14:30– End of the tour

Public transportation:

Route 1 – Central Bus Station – Kotel
Route 3 – Central Bus Station – Kotel
Route 38 – Jewish Quarter (circular route the goes by the Kotel)
Route 2 – From Kikar Tzahal (IDF Square) / Yitzhak Kariv Street (circular route operated by Superbus)

 

Taxis:

Taxis are always allowed to enter through Jaffa Gate; therefore, y can get to the City of David by taxi.

 

Arrival by private car:
Important note: It is difficult to find parking next to the Kotel and the City of David. These are our recommended arrival directions.

 

Nearby parking lots:

  1.  . Karta and Mamilla parking garages. Navigation with WAZE
    Walking distance from Karta / Mamilla parking garages to the City David approximately 20 minutes. Arrival by taxi is recommended.
  2.  Mt. Zion parking lot (fee charged). Navigation with WAZE
    Zion Gate / David’s Tomb parking lot (fee charged) – Approximately 9-minute walk to the City of David. Parking based on availability.

Navigation for walking:

Coming from the Kotel, turn left at the Dung Gate and it is a 2-minute walk to the City of David. Navigation with Google Maps
