The famous affair, which some claim was the inspiration for the movie “Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark”, took place in Jerusalem at the beginning of the 20th century when a daring treasure robber by the name of Montague Parker travelled from England to Jerusalem to find the lost temple treasures. Together with the mystic, Valta Juvelius, who claimed to be able to identify the exact location of the Ark of the Covenant, they dug tunnels in the City of David, and even bribed some of the Waqf guards on the Temple Mount to dig under the most sensitive section of in the area.<\/p>\n

After several nights of digging, one of the guards who was not in on the secret was alarmed when he heard rumblings coming from underground. The frightened guard rushed to call for help, causing the Parker team to leave the scene, leaving behind digging buckets and other objects. The affair gained worldwide attention, and was even published as a front page headline of the New York Times.<\/p>\n

Recently, after 111 years, Olivia Parker, the great-granddaughter of Montague Parker’s younger brother, has come to those exact same caves. In an attempt to trace the steps of her relative who became one of the well-known figures in the archeology of Jerusalem, Olivia walked underground in the City of David, and was filled with excitement and emotion.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
